Anthracosis is a lung disease. In which the bronchial mucosa turns black due to occupational exposure to silica, carbon, quartz, and etc. Also, their accumulation in macrophages causes bronchial obstruction. [1,2] The disease has existed since ancient times, and there is still no definitive cause and treatment for it. [3] Anthracosis, with damage to the bronchial mucosa, reduces mucociliary clearing function. [4] There is evidence of relationship between anthracosis and other pulmonary diseases Including pulmonary tuberculosis. [5] Tuberculosis is one of the oldest diseases and yet one of the health problems in this century. [6] In many studies, it has been observed that the risk of tuberculosis in miners with anthracosis is higher than that of the normal population. [7,8] In anthracotic patients require more evaluation including bronchoscopy due to deterioration in clinical condition, evidence from tuberculosis has been observed. [9] In some studies, the term “anthracosis” has generally been used to describe a wide range of diseases, however, other studies have limited tuberculosis to anthracofibrosis. In some studies, patients with a control group have been compared but in others, no. Most of the research has used smear and culture of sputum or bronchoalveolar lavage. The results of studies on the prevalence of tuberculosis are contradictory. Also, the methods and severity of lung anthracosis were different. [7] Due to these and, on the other hand, due to the blocking effects of anthracosis on bronchial trees and disturbances in proper sampling, it seems that the prevalence of tuberculosis in these people needs more study. Therefore, in this study, it was decided that, apart from the transfer of lavage fluid for smear and culture of tuberculosis, tissue sampling adjacent anthracotic plaque is also sent for smear and culture of tuberculosis.

Anthracosis is a lung disease featured with the bronchial mucosa turning black due to occupational exposure to silica, carbon, quartz, and etc.. In addition, accumulation of these substances in macrophages causes bronchial obstruction [1,2]. There are evidence of the disease in ancient times, and there is still no definitive cause and treatment known to man. [3] Anthracosis, with damage to the bronchial mucosa, reduces mucociliary clearing function. [4] There are evidences of a relationship between anthracosis and other pulmonary diseases including pulmonary tuberculosis. [5] Tuberculosis is one of the oldest diseases and yet one of the health problems in this century. [6] Many studies have reported that the risk of tuberculosis in miners with anthracosis is higher than that of the normal population. [7,8] In the case of anthracotic patients and due to deterioration in clinical condition, there is a need for more evaluation including bronchoscopy to find evidences of tuberculosis if any [9]. In some studies, the term “anthracosis” has generally been used to describe a wide range of diseases; however, other studies have limited tuberculosis to anthracofibrosis. In addition, some studies have focused on patients with a control group, while others have not used a control group. Most of the researches have used smear and culture of sputum or bronchoalveolar lavage. The results of studies on the prevalence of tuberculosis are contradictory. While many studies have used different methods and reported different levels of severity of lung anthracosis [7]. In light of this introduction and given the blocking effects of anthracosis on bronchial trees that disturbs proper sampling, it seems that the prevalence of tuberculosis in these people needs more study. Therefore, along with lavage fluid for smear and culture of tuberculosis, tissue samples adjacent to anthracotic plaque were used for smearing and culturing tuberculosis.
